Huge new railway developments to start in the next two years in the Great Plain, Kecskemét station to be renewed

They announced the renovation of the Kecskemét-Dabas-Budapest railway line, the four-lane upgrading of the main road 5 to the Mercedes factory and the modernisation of the Halasi road overpass, among others.

János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport continued the country several cities in the country, most recently Szeged less than a week ago.

Now in Kecskemét, the minister has reached an agreement with Mayor Klaudia Szemereyné Pataki, and as reported by kecskemet365.hu on site report, he announced that the 142 railway line running between Kecskemét, Dabas and Budapest will be renovated, and confirmed that the 140 line running between Szeged and Cegléd will also be renovated.

This is the biggest railway construction project in the Great Plain in the last hundred years, with around 600 billion forints planned to be spent in the next two years on the development and transformation of the Szeged-Kecskemét-Cegléd-Budapest railway area

At the joint press conference following the meeting, the following were among the speakers:

  • The railway station in Kecskemét is being renewed with HUF 15 billion,
  • the Halasi road flyover is being renovated,
  • the reconstruction of the new building of the Kada Elek Technical School is completed,

He stressed that it is largely thanks to the Mayor and his team that "from scratch, one of Europe's most important and Hungary's largest automotive centres" was created in the city, and that the largest European Mercedes factory and Hungary's largest automotive production capacity were born in Kecskemét.

More four-lane roads to be built

Finally, he pointed out that the Kecskemét intermodal hub was also discussed at the meeting, and the plans for this were brought up again:

  • the main road 5 from the Mercedes factory to the city is widened to four lanes,
  • A 3.5 km link road is being built between the 52 and 54 motorways,
  • and also four lanes on the main road 44 from junction 5 to the junction with road 445,
  • and there are plans to restore the Messzi István Sports Hall.
