The court building, also used as a prison, is to be renovated and the prisoners transferred during the works

The locally protected building of the Szolnok Court of Justice and the Szolnok District Court will be renovated by TÖMB 2000 Service Provider Kft. within 12 months.
 

Major reconstruction of the building half a century ago

The building, built in 1893 according to the plans of architect Gyula Wagner, has the status of a locally protected monument and is owned by the state and is the exclusive property of the Szolnok Regional Court. The technical condition of the building has deteriorated spectacularly since its last major renovation about half a century ago. After years of planning, the National Office for the Judiciary decided last year that the judicial organisation would start a complete renovation of the building this year, using its own budget.

Renovation of the roof structure and the facade

The contractor is responsible for the renovation of the roof structure, which covers an area of 2,705 square metres, the replacement of the roofing and tin roofing structures over a total area of 3,320 square metres.

In addition to the replacement of 404 exterior windows and doors, the experts of the company that won the contract will also completely renovate the 3,222 square metre façade of the building.

The tasks include waterproofing of the plinth of the building by coating and grouting, as well as the renovation of the sidewalks and courtyard paving around the building.
In parallel with the external works, the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Penitentiary Institute, which operates in the forensic building, will carry out maintenance works on the utility network in the part of the building it uses.
 

Prisoners will be moved to another institution during the renovation

The modernisation will be carried out in two phases, an external and an internal renovation, they added. Work on the project, which is being carried out under the professional supervision of the building and heritage authority, will start in the next few days and is expected to last for a year, the statement said. Colonel György Makula, head of the communications department of the National Command of the Penitentiary Service, said that the prison in Szolnok would not close and the temporary evacuation would not entail any redundancies. Prisoners will be temporarily housed in other institutions and will be transferred back after the renovation works.
