Siklós' busy junction gets a facelift

Siklós is set to undergo significant developments in terms of both transport and the townscape. The Public Procurement Bulletin has published a call for tenders concerning the construction of a new roundabout at the junction of Felszabadulás Street and Gyűdi Road, as well as the complete redevelopment of the square in front of the Service Centre.

According to information provided by Siklósi Hírek website, the local government previously received 300-300 million forints in EU funding for the development of the square and car park in front of the Service Centre, as well as for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Gyűdi út and Felszabadulás utca. The work was preceded by the renovation of the Service House, during which the building's energy efficiency was upgraded at a cost of more than HUF 137 million.

Making transport smoother and safer

According to Mayor Gábor Riegl, the reconstruction of the junction would start before the summer season, with an expected completion date of early 2026. The current signalised junction will be replaced by a narrowed single-lane roundabout, which will provide safer and smoother traffic.

The project will include the construction of an asphalt pavement with paved buffer islands and pavements. The street lighting network will also be renewed, with new chandeliers and modern luminaires. The telecommunications network will also be replaced and a fibre optic cable network will be installed.

The square in front of the Service House is enriched with smart benches

In addition to the roundabout, the square in front of the Service Centre is also undergoing a complete transformation. The reconstruction will include new paving, granite and paving stones, while the green areas will be enriched with new vegetation, trees and shrubs.

A spectacular feature of the project will be a modern water feature with a granite surface and limestone inlays. The new plaza will provide shade from the sun with sun sails and modern street furniture such as benches, litter bins, bicycle racks and smart benches. The street lighting will be modernised with energy-saving LED lights.

The improvements will also include the creation of a 12-space paved parking lot on the green area behind the Service Centre.

The investments in Siklós aim to improve transport, modernise the townscape and improve the quality of life in the local community. The deadline for tenders is 20.03.20.20.2025.
