Oncology institute to be built on the site of a ghost hospital in Timisoara
The president of the Timiș County Council, Alfred Simonis, announced that the winner of the tender for the construction of the Timișoara Regional Oncology Institute has been selected – reports nyugatijelen.com in Arad. During the investment, a hospital complex left unfinished 30 years ago will be demolished on Torontál Road, then plans will be drawn up and the new healthcare facility will be built in its place , according to an article by tion.ro .
The new Institute of Oncology will also have 250 hospital beds, 6 operating theatres, radiotherapy facilities, a nuclear laboratory and a centre for bone marrow and stem cell transplantation.
Work should be completed by the end of 2026
"Timis County and the whole of Banat need such an oncology institute", said Alfred Simonis. The contractor has already been selected through a public procurement procedure, but the name of the winner will only be announced after the contract has been signed, as the possibility of appeal is still open to the other participants.
As the project is funded by the Romanian EU-funded National Recovery Plan (PNRR), it must be completed by the end of 2026 to ensure that the available funds are not lost.
