The iconic hall of Terézváros is bid farewell with a spectacular series of images - renovation begins
The interior renovation of the Hunyadi Square Market Hall is about to begin. To mark the occasion, a video showing the current state of the hall has been released: series of photos showing the current state of the hall.
As we reported in March here, the building is undergoing a complete renovation. The work is being carried out by the consortium of Magyar Építő Zrt. and Épkar Zrt. consortium. The aim of the development is to modernise the historic building while preserving its architectural values and providing a modern, comfortable environment for shoppers and vendors.
The project is being built by the Municipality of Terézváros, while the client is Terézvárosi Vagyonkezelő Nonprofit Zrt..The technical supervision of the construction works is being carried out by Eurout Kft., while the construction plans are being prepared by Archi-Kon Kft. and KARC Architect Studio Kft..
Vendors have already moved to the temporary stalls
According to the entry, the hall opened for the last time on 17 June, after which all the vendors moved to the temporary market in the farmers' area, where they started selling from 23 June.
In two years, the interior of the historic building designed by Győző Czigler, which has never undergone a complete renovation since its opening, will be reborn. Demolition and waterproofing are scheduled to start in July, while structural work will begin in August.
The following works are expected to be carried out this year:
- Demolition,
- structural construction,
- waterproofing,
- heritage surveys and documentation,
- masonry work,
- locksmith work,
- setting up a tower,
- scaffolding works.
After the internal renovation, the inhabitants of the district will not only get back a modern market, but also a community space. The stalls in the centre of the hall will be movable so that events can be organised here. There will also be a gallery for people to meet each other.
