University of Miskolc responds to doubling student numbers by renovating dormitory buildings

At the University of Miskolc, two dormitories and a restaurant with an event venue were renovated with government support, and a family-friendly building was created to house a crèche and apartments.

Zita Horváth, the rector of the institution, said at a press event held on Tuesday on the occasion of the handover of the development: since 2020, the university has managed to implement nearly HUF 50 billion of development.

It was also revealed that the University of Miskolc has doubled the number of students admitted in the last 3 years, reaching 4,000 this year.

Hungarian universities' results in international surveys are improving

Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, said he was proud that Hungarian universities have become strongholds of international knowledge, with their scientific output in the top international journals increasing by 48% in 3 years.

The Minister pointed out that Miskolc has achieved an 80 percent increase in scientific performance in three years. He also drew attention to the fact that twelve Hungarian universities are now in the top five percent of the 30,000 universities in the world, while in 2019 there were only seven. He added that the University of Miskolc is particularly proud to be one of them.
