Major educational development launched in Ferencváros

A comprehensive development has been launched at the Gundel Károly Hospitality and Tourism Technical School in Budapest: on 20 October, the foundation stone of the Budapest Complex Vocational Training Centre programme was laid.

The project will renew the school's current building, adding a new wing and new equipment, machinery and furniture. The Gundel Károly Hospitality and Tourism Technical School will benefit from more than 7.7 billion forints under the programme.

Economical operation is one of the objectives of development

At Monday's press event, Veronika Varga-Bajusz, State Secretary for Higher Education, Vocational and Adult Education and Youth at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM), said that in the OECD ranking, Hungarian vocational education and training is bronze medal winner in terms of labour market relevance. „It is no coincidence that 6 out of 10 primary school pupils now choose a technical college,” he said.

Speaking about the name-giver of the Technikum, Veronika Varga-Bajusz said that Károly Gundel is one of the greatest reformers in the history of Hungarian catering. „The name Gundel is an independent concept, it embodies the excellence of Hungarian cuisine and Hungarian hospitality, and the Technikum must be true to its namesake.”

At the ceremony, Zoltán Nyul, Deputy State Secretary in charge of the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium (ÉKM) building construction investments, said that the HUF 6 billion of funds available for the construction will enable the functionality of the institution to be ensured, and will allow for its economical operation and significant energy savings.
