Mezőtúr’s 127-year-old public building is to be renovated

As we learnt from the recently published public procurement notice, INTEGRÁL Építő Zrt. will carry out the modernisation of the Teleki Blanka Grammar School in Mezőtúr over a period of 15 months, at a cost of approximately one billion forints.

The school building, situated in the town centre, with its symmetrical layout, simple ornamentation and entrance accentuated by a modest central risalit, was opened in September 1899. The main building of the Teleki Blanka Grammar School in Mezőtúr, part of the Karcag Vocational Training Centre, is in need of renovation in a number of areas.

The renovation involves not only the modernisation of the toilet facilities and catering areas in the old school building, but also the repainting of the entire school building and the refurbishment of the flooring. The aim of the modernisation is to create high-quality communal and educational spaces that meet today’s standards, as well as to provide facilities necessary for the day-to-day running of the school that are currently lacking.

There are a number of issues that need to be addressed

As stated, the construction work is aimed at renovating, restoring and modernising the building. In order to meet basic educational and hygiene requirements, it has become necessary to modernise the sanitary facilities and catering units in the school building, as well as to repaint and refurbish the flooring throughout the entire school building.

The teaching kitchen on the basement level does not currently meet basic educational requirements, and the use of the basement level is not rational; therefore, in order to improve the efficiency and quality of practical training, the basement level needs to be functionally reorganised so that it serves the needs of the educational institution as effectively as possible.

One of the most famous educational buildings in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County has a total net floor area of 4,072.91 m². The main tasks to be carried out on this building, which is listed as a local heritage site, are as follows:

• demolition work
• retrofit damp-proofing: the basement level of the existing building must be retrofitted with damp-proofing measures on both vertical and horizontal surfaces;
• surface insulation on the inside and outside of the walls; floor insulation in the basement; surface treatment and plastering; wall insulation in the gym;
• facade restoration and refurbishment;
• structural alterations (installation of a new floor slab; installation of a new lift; floor slab reinforcement; replacement of openings; reinforcement of the roof truss for the gym extension)
• interior design (partition walls and doors and windows; floor and wall coverings; lift car)
• Accessibility: The new lift is planned to be installed next to the main staircase. The lift provides barrier-free access to all floors of the building and the school playground
• building services and electrical engineering work, installation of kitchen equipment.
