One of the most famous streets in Pest's city centre has been renovated with a climate-conscious development

Hungary's first climate-conscious street has been created in Budapest's 5th district, according to a statement from the Belváros Municipality. While the technical handover of the project, which was carried out by Penta General Construction Kft., is still in progress, the wall-to-wall renewal of Arany János Street has already been opened to traffic.

The development includes nearly 100 new trees, green bus stops, more than half a hundred bicycle storage facilities, a water-saving irrigation system in line with the blue concept, a rainwater harvesting cistern and a borehole that uses groundwater. "All this has created an area in the city centre that already reflects the climate strategy of the future," says the statement.

In the summary, they stress that the strategy has transformed Podmaniczky Square into a virtual urban league by 2019 with 82 new trees. Then, from 2021, the complete renovation of Arany János Street, which connects Podmaniczky Square to the Danube, was started in two phases.

"I am proud that together with the community of the 5th District we can once again have a development that significantly contributes to the livability and homeliness of the Downtown and combines both our climate-conscious approach to the preservation of our natural treasures and the increase of green spaces" - summarized Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi, District Mayor of the significance of the investment. "Everyone who walks along the street, which is lined with nearly 100 tree-lined trees, can be part of the successful renewal of Arany János Street."
