Bridge built with Duna Group inaugurated in Norway

The 400-tonne bridge, built at the Hungarian group's plant in Poland, spans a railway line and a motorway, linking two parts of the city.

A new bridge has been built in Norway with the help of Hungarian construction companies. The Saupstad Bridge over the railway and motorway in Trondheim was inaugurated on 20 June. The steel structure of the 180-metre-long span was built by Duna Group in Poland, with the assistance of WKS Duna Polska Sp.z o.o., a member of the Hungarian group.

A pedestrian and cyclist crossing linking Saupstad and Tiller in Trondheim, the country's third largest city. It was a long-awaited investment that will make life easier for locals by significantly shortening the commute to work or school for Tiller residents.

Interestingly, professional road cyclist Idar Andersen and Norwegian second division footballer Michael Stilson raced across the bridge at the inauguration, emphasising that a cyclist-pedestrian bridge had been built.

Corrosion protection also came with extra tasks

According to our newspaper, the bridge, weighing more than 400 tonnes and with 3 openings, was made up of eight huge elements. Each of them was 24 metres long, nearly 6 metres wide and more than 3 metres high, each weighing more than 50 tonnes. The Duna Group had to be built by Hungarian and Polish craftsmen not only to European structural steel standards, but also to specific Norwegian specifications.

The transport units were taken by oversized trucks to the Polish port, from where they were transported by boat to Norway.

Due to the specific weather conditions in northern Europe, the implementation of corrosion protection was an extra challenge: accordingly, the different surfaces of the bridge were covered with three different paint systems. "The successful completion of this project is proof of the professionalism and innovative solutions of our group in the field of steel structures," Duna Group concluded.
