This is how the preparation for the M1 motorway extension is progressing - work starts on two more sections in the dividing lane

New information has been received from MKIF Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Zrt. regarding the preparatory work for the expansion of the M1 motorway, which will begin in September. We will continue to provide updates on this matter at report on an ongoing basis. During the approximately 80-kilometre extension, the road surface will be renewed from the M0 motorway to the Concó rest area in the Ács and Bábolna area, and the M1 will be expanded to 2×3 lanes + ITS lane (the latter abbreviation stands for intelligent stop lane).

This time, writes on its Facebook page that, after a great deal of preparatory work, they have now reached another important milestone before the actual expansion can begin: preparatory work on the main track is also starting at two new locations.

Just over a week ago, it was announced that work could begin on the dividing strip between Óbarok and Tatabánya (42-56 km), with traffic being diverted to the outer and hard shoulder on both sides by means of lane closures. They are now reporting that this week, work will begin between the Komárom and Concó rest areas (84-96 km) and between the M0 and Bicske (20-35 km), with traffic being diverted in a similar manner. This means that work can also begin in the middle lane at these locations, during which:

• vegetation will be removed, the existing drainage systems will be repaired and the current barrier will be replaced by concrete barriers to improve safety.
• Business gateways, emergency shelter bays will also be built to allow the fastest possible exit from the traffic lane during expansion, in case of a technical problem, and to speed up rescue operations.
• Alternatively, the bridges and flyovers need to be rebuilt or completely rebuilt, so that the necessary intermediate supports can be built.

They stress that the junctions and rest areas on the sections will remain accessible.
