Construction of the M49 motorway to be stepped up ahead of the winter shutdown

Most recently, we reported on the construction of the M49 expressway, when the track slab was built on the Kraszna Bridge. The project involves the construction of the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium investment, the Duna Aszfalt Építő Zrt. investment, a 28.15-kilometre four-lane road will be built between Mátészalka and Ököritófülpös. This will be followed by the construction of the section between Ököritófülpös and Csenger, creating a fast connection between the M3 motorway and the Hungarian-Romanian border crossing near Satu Mare.

The project will also include 4 grade-separated and 5 roundabout junctions, 22 structures, a double-sided complex and a single rest area, as well as a 3.3 km long Győrtelek bypass (secondary arterial road) section, including the necessary utility works.

Part of the main line has been temporarily opened to traffic

Construction has been progressing at a good pace in recent months, with the section between mileposts 0+450 and 10+500 nearing completion.

The wearing course and 80 percent of the finishing work, including painting pavement signs, building ribbon barriers and installing wildlife fences, has already been completed.

The section of the main line between kilometre sections 0+450 and 1+700 and part of the Jarmi junction have been temporarily closed to traffic due to pavement strengthening and correction works on the 49 motorway.

Bridge construction is also progressing well: six bridges are complete and the roadbed is already in place on fifteen structures.

Work on the Kraszna Bridge is on schedule: the curbs, floating slab and expansion structure will be completed by the end of the year, while the asphalt pavement will be ready for construction next spring.

Several important sections could be completed before the winter shutdown

The construction of the track structure is currently underway between km 20+500 and 26+500, while the main track up to km 20+000 is already completed at the binder course level. The aim is to reach this level of completion up to km 26+500 before the end of this year. In addition, the junction at Győrtelek has already been paved with asphalt and the construction of the roundabout at the junction of roads 49 and 491 is under way.

A priority is the correction of the junction of the main road 471 connecting Debrecen to Mátészalka. The section of this road, which includes two roundabouts, has already been completed and is currently being built, including the traffic engineering and the linking of the existing road with the new section.

"Our goal is to temporarily open this section this year, so that we can connect the main line under the 471 road" - said Péter Czeglédi, head of the main construction department.
