This wastewater treatment plant in Békés county is ahead in every respect

The modernisation of the wastewater treatment plant in Mezőberény, Békés county, at a net cost of HUF 1.974 billion, has been completed, MTI reported.The project, which started in March 2019, was implemented by Békés Vakond Kft., a member of Duna Csoport. The majority of the funding was obtained from the EU's Operational Programme for Environment and Energy Efficiency (KEHOP), with the remainder financed by the central budget.

The investment included the renovation of buildings, technological upgrades and the construction of a new wastewater pipeline at the wastewater treatment plant of the town of 9,600 inhabitants, István Siklósi (independent), mayor of the town, told MTI.

The reduction of organic matter content is also achieved

Speaking about the environmental importance of the development, the Mayor said that the wastewater treatment plant will discharge water of a quality that can be used for immediate irrigation. It is also important to note that before the development, the plant did not meet the increasingly stringent standards, as the effluent discharged previously contained significant amounts of organic matter.

In addition, the system has become more secure. In rainy weather, the old plant could no longer cope with the influx of rainwater. With a daily capacity of 12,460 cubic metres, the plant serves the population of Mezőberény and Köröstarcsa. The treated waste water is discharged into the Körös river.
