Market is the first Hungarian contractor to obtain the ISO certification for BIM

Today, the BIM is a key factor

As reported by Contech Construction Conference in Balatonfüred, Szabolcs Grátzer, head of the design department at Market Építő Zrt., emphasised that it was time to examine the application of BIM in more detail. „It would be worth looking at which of its functions are present in which project phases, as well as which types of projects it is typically used in.” The large-scale introduction of BIM requires a change in mindset, especially among managers. The newly acquired certificate is an important sign that this process is progressing at a good pace with Market. We asked Szabolcs Grátzer about the significance of compliance with the standard and the future possibilities of using BIM.

The BIM can be used successfully in many areas and there are several types of BIM. The Market is mainly useful for design and construction support functions.

"Accordingly, we use Building Information Management to control data exchange processes, support spatial coordination, plan quality control, support technical preparation and construction management tasks."

It is now a common expectation among colleagues to have access to the shared merged models, and even to have a BIM coordinator to support their work; and to be able to request data and checks based on the BIM model at any time."

The certificate is not just recognition, it also points to areas for improvement

Szabolcs Grátzer drew attention to the following points regarding compliance with the ISO standard:

"We had two objectives: on the one hand, during the certification we reviewed and checked our processes, operations, documents and recorded the areas where we still need to improve."

"It is important," he added, "to see ourselves from the eyes of an external expert from time to time and learn from this. And our other goal was to assure our future customers, often foreign, easily and quickly of our commitment to BIM management, and thus to high quality and innovation; that we can meet their expectations without any problems."

"Obtaining the certificate," he pointed out, "was not the result of some external constraint (legal regulation or client requirement), and this gave me great peace of mind throughout the audit process. I feel the result speaks for itself and my colleagues and I are very proud of it."

In response to our questions about the future, the head of the planning department highlighted:

"we would like to automate certain tasks and further expand the range of items that can be accounted for on a BIM basis.

The former will reduce the workload of the BIM coordinator colleagues, while the latter will take a big burden off the shoulders of the technical preparation engineers and site managers, allowing them to devote a much larger proportion of their energy to engineering."
