The BIM is here! - a valuable competition to get students involved in the construction industry

BuildEXT has launched a national thesis competition for civil, architectural, mechanical and electrical engineering students who use innovative BIM (Building Information Modeling) solutions in their thesis.

The competition can be a springboard to the future labour market

The announcement by the Hungarian design company leading the domestic application of BIM also describes the aim of the competition: to encourage young people to use the BIM creatively and practically, and to make the digitalisation of the domestic construction industry a tangible reality during their university years. „The competition is not only a professional challenge, but also a springboard for students in the future labour market,” reads the summary.

The announcement quotes Dániel Joó, BIM manager of the BuildEXT, who points out that the BIM is no longer part of the future, but of the present:

"We want students who are graduating to see it that way. This competition is an opportunity for them to show how to create real, working digital solutions from design to implementation and even operation, and to be the ones who, together with us, shape the way we see the profession."

A successful defence is also a condition

The report also explains the practical details: the deadline for submission is 30 April 2025.The competition is open to all students who have completed a BSc, MSc or MSc thesis in civil, architectural, mechanical or electrical engineering in 2024 and successfully defended it by the deadline.

Entries can be submitted by filling in an online registration form, after which applicants will be given a unique hosting account where they can upload their entry. Entries are valid once all the required documents have been uploaded. Only models created in Revit software are invited, but other BIM-based solutions are welcome.

The best can perform in front of representatives of the Hungarian real estate and construction industry

The first three winners will receive a total prize of HUF 300 000.The announcement of the results and the presentation of the prizes will take place at PropTech Hungary Conference 2025, section BIM on 7 May, where the winners will present their entries in a 5-minute presentation to the Hungarian real estate and construction industry.

Proptech Hungary has joined the competition as a professional partner to give the winners the opportunity to present their work directly to a professional audience at Hungary's most important real estate technology conference.

Evaluation criteria

- Novelty and innovation of technical solutions

- BIM models thoughtfulness, structural quality

- BIM application versatility (e.g. 4D, 5D, point cloud, simulations)

- Quality and professionalism of the essay and presentation

Mandatory submission of material

- Diploma thesis (.pdf format)

- Revit model (.rvt format)

- Presentation of up to 7 slides (.ppt, .prezi, or .pdf format)
