The M1 metro line renewal and extension now in the preparatory phase

The M1 Metro Line is Budapest's first metro line and, having opened in 1896, was the first underground railway line in continental Europe. Following its extension in 1973 and renovation in 1987, plans for its development and extension were completed in 2014 – available on the BKK (Budapest Transport Centre) website.

Implementation would take place in three phases

In the pre-market consultation just published for its plans for the reconstruction of the small subway, the investor also provides details of the planned public procurement.

Accordingly, the designer's task is to

• preparation of project concept plans, as well as the design documentation for the permit, construction and contractor selection process,
• complete the authorisation procedures,
• obtaining all the necessary permits and consents.

The design work is divided into several design phases:

Phase 1: Reconstruction of the existing section of the M1 metro line and the depot, station accessibility and design of the Hungária körút station.

Phase 2: Study plan for the extension of the M1 metro line to the outer ring railway area, with a cycle-pedestrian corridor between Városliget-Zugló.

Phase 3: Permitting and construction documentation for the variant selected in Phase 2.

Here are the specific design tasks

• Complete renovation of the M1 metro line and the depot, which is about 4.4 km long;
• upgrading and accessibility of all 11 existing stations, taking into account heritage and conservation aspects and the environment

in addition;

• design of the systems (traffic management, safety equipment, SCADA, etc.) for the entire line, taking into account future extensions, and their installation in a control centre;
• the preparation of conceptual designs, for which it will also prepare the building permit and design documents and the tender documents for the selection of the tenderer.
• The designer is also responsible for the conceptual design study of the extension of the metro line by one stop in Alsórákos (Kassai tér - Rákosrendező railway station);
• on the basis of this, the design of the extension and the planning of the realignment and reconstruction of the associated surface areas and structures.
• The designer's task is to study the conceptual design of the transfer to tram 1 at Hungária körút and to design it later, taking into account other connections to Mexikói út.
• A further task is to study the conceptual design of the line extension in the direction of the circular railway, in line with the previously planned line sections.

They add that the Designer shall consult, in the presence of the Client, with the designers, project managers and, if necessary, investors and contractors of ongoing design or construction projects.

Preparing projects more accurately with the Prior Market Consultation
