Energy upgrades and home renovations can create new orders for the domestic construction industry.

A catalogue of renovation measures available in the renewed Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EES) has been published in the Hungarian Gazette. Accordingly, the public can now also benefit from investments to improve the energy efficiency of their properties, the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.

Participants in the EER can modernise their homes and permanently reduce their energy costs with less or no outlay.

The catalogue was developed following extensive professional consultation and will enable the public to make the following investments:

  • in particular the insulation of the facade and roof structure,
  • replacement of windows and doors,
  • heating modernisation,
  • installation and replacement of split air conditioning systems, and
  • lighting upgrades.

These options can directly and significantly reduce the energy consumption of a building.

By encouraging energy modernisation, investments and home renovations that result in lasting energy savings can create demands for the domestic construction industry.

You can also save on the outlay

Under the new scheme, the government will oblige electricity and gas trading companies to contribute to investments in household energy modernisation among the population. The energy modernisation carried out means that the household's energy consumption will be reduced and the energy savings that can be demonstrated, after a professional energy certification, will have a monetary value that can be used to finance the investment, which can replace or reduce the co-financing.

The ERA is expected to contribute to the energy renovation of up to 150,000 homes by the end of 2027, resulting in energy savings of around 97 gigajoules, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 10-12 Hungarian cities.

The programme can be combined with other government home renovation programmes.
