A new era in the energy economy: the first domestic hydrogen filling station opens
Hungary's first hydrogen filling station opened in Budapest, operated by Linde Gáz Magyarország Zrt.. At Illatos Road in the 9th district, 4,000 kilograms of hydrogen can be refuelled after prior registration, Zsófia Koncz, Parliamentary Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy, announced at a conference in Budapest on Friday.
The first plant was built in Kardoscuto
As we have previously indicated, the use of hydrogen could herald a new era in the history of the Hungarian energy and hydrogen economy. In this context, Hungary's first electrolysis plant was handed over at the Kardoskút Underground Gas Storage Facility in May last year Hungary's first hydrogen production plant using electrolysis was handed over. One of the main contractors for the investment related to the Akvamarin project in Békés County was Vabeko Kft..
The significance of the project is that the surplus electricity generated by renewable energy sources (solar panels) in the electricity system can be stored in large quantities, up to several hundred megawatts, in the form of hydrogen for long periods of time, even months, and can be recycled as electricity on demand.
The most suitable area for exploitation in the short term is transport
At Friday's press event, Zsófia Koncz said that the future of the Hungarian economy lies in green energy, and the government therefore intends to promote the popularisation and spread of hydrogen technology. In the short term, transport is the most suitable field for its use.
In the Zrt. pilot project of the HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency, hydrogen fuel cell buses will be introduced in the capital agglomeration, in Debrecen, Győr, Kecskemét, Kaposvár, Miskolc and Zalaegerszeg, as well as in the Budapest agglomeration.
On the second day of the two-day international conference Hydrogen Open 2024 of the Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association, after the opening ceremony, Mol, MÁV, Volánbusz and Waberer's signed a strategic cooperation agreement to promote the domestic use of hydrogen fuel cell transport.
The conference will be hosted at Mol Campus in Budapest.
