Three-member consortium to build new combined cycle power plant in Visonta
A three-member consortium will build the new combined-cycle (CCGT- Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) power plant at the Visonta site of MVM Mátra Energia Zrt., the state-owned company announced the results of the conditional tender procedure for MTI, which closed on Thursday.
According to the announcement, the Elsewedy for Power Systems Projects, the WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. and Status KPRIA Zrt.. The winning bidder may build a power plant with a capacity of 500-650 megawatts (MW), replacing the Mátra Power Plant's current 884 MW lignite-fired units, which are responsible for nearly one-tenth of domestic electricity production and nearly 5 per cent of total domestic carbon dioxide emissions, they wrote.
Signed:
The new state-of-the-art CCGT plant will contribute to the growth of weather-dependent renewable electricity generation and support security of supply by providing system regulation capability to replace the capacity of lignite-fired units, in line with national climate and energy policy plans and the objectives of the MVM Group's strategy up to 2035.
On average, the new plant will provide 2-2.5 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity to the Hungarian electricity system annually once it goes into commercial operation. The plant's specific carbon emissions per unit of electricity production will be only a quarter of lignite-based emissions, they added.
The MVM will finalise the financing structure once the contract is signed, they wrote.
