Rural SMEs can obtain interest-free loans for energy modernisation
An interest-free loan of at least 10 million but up to half a billion forints, available through a tender opening in early February, could help companies invest in their rural sites under the Jedlik Ányos Energy Programme, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy (EM) on Thursday.
The latest element of the support system provides a total of HUF 38.7 billion in interest-free loans for investments planned by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises outside the capital.
Up to 35 per cent of the total budget may be used in the most developed regions, in Central and Western Transdanubia and Pest County. Approximately two-thirds of the funds may be used to reduce companies' energy consumption and electricity and gas bills in other parts of the country. A separate budget of up to HUF 3 billion may be used to modernise the mechanical equipment of water utility providers, thereby facilitating the sector's operations.
Favourable credit terms are offered for a 30% reduction in energy consumption.
Eligible activities include insulation of the building envelope, replacement of windows and doors, energy-efficient modernisation of indoor and outdoor lighting, central ventilation, cooling, heating or hot water systems, purchase of lower consumption equipment to replace existing equipment, utilisation of residual heat and waste heat.
A basic requirement is that businesses must reduce their primary energy consumption by at least 30 per cent by using the subsidy. The savings must be achieved per building in the case of purely building energy efficiency improvements, per production process or logistics unit in the case of purely technological modernisation, and per site in the case of complex investments.
A maximum of half a billion forints can be requested, with a minimum of 10 per cent own contribution.
The minimum loan amount that can be applied for is HUF 10 million and the maximum is HUF 500 million, but it may not exceed fifteen times the operating profit of the financial year preceding the assessment of the application. Participants must provide their own contribution of at least 10 per cent of the eligible costs. Applications for the programme can be submitted at MFB Pont Plusz network branches from 2 February 2026 until the end of May 2027.
