Who is planning the new campus in Ferencváros

The new complex will be built using the former Kaltenberg pub building and an undeveloped plot of land on Üllői út.

The new campus of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University (KRE) will be built in Ferencváros, the results of the design competition for the building complex have been announced, the institution told MTI on Tuesday.

They wrote: the new campus, which is planned to be built in the area of Markusovszky Square with state and church funding, will house the Faculty of Law and Political Science and the Institute of Psychology. Almost 2500 students will be able to study at the same time.

The open architectural design competition was launched by the Reformed Church of Hungary to select the design and architect for a campus to be built using the former Kaltenberg pub and an undeveloped building on Üllői út.

The jury chose the design of Archikon Architects Építészstúdió from Budapest, which is 35 years old this year, out of 42 valid entries. The results of the competition were announced on Monday evening.

The jury was chaired by Regő Lánszki, National Chief Architect and Secretary of State of Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium, and co-chaired by Balázs Fürjes, Head of University Development. In addition to the experts delegated by the Reformed Church, Zoltán Erő, Chief Architect of Budapest, Krisztina Baranyi, Mayor of Ferencváros, Tihamér Szalay, Vice President of the Hungarian Chamber of Architects and Gyula Balázs Csáki-Hatalovics, Chancellor of the KRE also participated in the work of the panel.

In its professional recommendations, the jury drew attention to the need to preserve and develop the leisure functions serving the population in Markusovszky Square, and to implement the exploration of the building complex on Üllői út, the design of parking and public space in cooperation with the Ferencváros Municipality.
