Knowledge passed on: the fifth Duna Group Szabadegyetem has completed its mission

An extremely interested audience gathered this year at the event held between 16 and 18 August Duna Group Szabadegyetemen. The three-day professional workshop was attended by students of civil engineering, architecture, hydraulic engineering, geodesy, geoinformatics, mechanical engineering and IT. This year, university students also came from across the border. Once again, the organisers focused the event on infrastructure development using hightech machines and technologies.

Nearly 50 lucky young people had the opportunity to gain personal insight into the construction of the M44 motorway and the central asphalt laboratory in Lakitelek, operated by Duna Aszfalt central asphalt laboratory in Lakitelek. The team also visited the new Flood Protection Training Centre in Millér, near Szolnok, which is unique in Europe.

New information for students on the M44

The participants were given presentations by the best Hungarian experts on the InfraBIM, the mysteries of road construction, the innovative measurement technologies and instruments required, and then these tools were demonstrated to them at the site of each project.

József Pál informed the young people about the construction of the M44 motorway. "The students were extremely interested, although they were shy, preferring to ask questions in private or in small groups, but they asked good questions. For them, the visit was significant because many of them had never been to a construction site of this kind before and had never seen such equipment", the deputy project manager told the newspaper.

Beyond the curriculum on BIM

The different surveying tools used for road construction were presented to the group by József Lennert, Chief Surveyor of Duna Aszfalt 3D Survey. He pointed out that during the presentation he first introduced the audience to the conceptual background of these instruments and then demonstrated them on site. "We had a very good audience this year. They asked a lot of questions and were very impressed with the instruments and the results they can achieve. They were interested in the high level of facilitation that these instruments can bring to their daily work and how much relevant information they can collect and use in the BIM system."

József Lennert also considers the topic important because students receive little information about this area in the university setting.

"Education is in a difficult situation, because they can only teach the BIM in general, not in detail. Although the legal environment is moving in the direction of electronic, digital files for design and construction, in civil engineering there is no BIM environment as well established as in building construction - in this area Duna Group is pioneering work."
