The background to the Hungarian company's cement production in Libya
On 8 October, the Libyan Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources reported that, at a meeting held that day at the ministry's office in Misrata, State Secretary Mustafa Al-Samou discussed a preliminary proposal submitted by a Hungarian company called Rotary International to build a cement factory in Libya.
Specifically, the management of Rotary International Kft. negotiated with city leaders to build a modern, environmentally friendly cement factory and a large-scale seawater desalination plant.
Similarly, on 19 November, the Misrata City Council announced that it had monitored a meeting organised by the Misrata Free Trade Zone (MFZ), chaired by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and attended by the Mayor of Misrata, the head of the city council's infrastructure committee, the Hungarian consul and a delegation from Rotary International Ltd.
Libya's third largest city could grow stronger
During the meeting, the parties agreed that the planned investments would strengthen Misrata's industrial role while contributing to the development of basic services and industrial infrastructure.
The desalination plant will be capable of producing 170,000 cubic metres of drinking water and a further 30,000 cubic metres of industrial water per day, ensuring water supplies for both the local population and industry.
The meeting was attended by, among others, the mayor of the city, the Libyan Minister of Industry responsible for industrial facilities and mineral resources, the CEO of Libyan Iron and Steel Works, and the CEO of the Misrata Free Zone.
