STRABAG is working on the accessibility of the station and further improvements.

The pedestrian underpass at Határ út metro station is being renovated: the construction work currently underway will make it easier for people with prams or large luggage and customers with limited mobility to access the station. As previously detailed in our summary, the development is being carried out by STRABAG Generálépítő Kft., building on the work also carried out by STRABAG-csoport on the station in the southern section of the M3 underground line.

A major milestone in the ongoing investment is the completion of one of the lifts between the surface and underground levels, making the station platforms accessible from Wednesday 20 December

- according to a statement by the investor Budapest Transport Centre (BKK).

The lift at the terminus of tram 50, next to the already renewed stairs, is on trial until the renovation is completed, so there may be some initial disruption. The previously constructed temporary pedestrian crossing will continue to provide access to the bus terminus on Üllői út, as well as to the terminus of trams 42 and 52.

New lighting and CCTV to ensure security

In addition to the construction of lifts to ensure barrier-free access to the metro station, not only the stairs and the pedestrian underpass will be renovated. New lighting, surveillance and fire alarm systems will be installed to improve safety and security, as well as

- renovate the entire operational area outside the passenger area;

- replace the equipment needed for the safe operation of the underpass, and even

- modernising the water supply, sewerage and electricity networks.

The second lift will be installed this winter

In line with the renewal of the electrical system, the second lift between the surface and the subway level is expected to be opened to passengers in February. During its construction, the investor BKK paid particular attention to the operator's request not to damage the water network there, and therefore changed the construction technology during the work, taking into account time constraints.

As the renovation progresses, the STRABAG will continue to open up the pavement to pedestrians, but until the full handover in spring, it will protect the finished pavement elements with foil and barriers to minimise obstruction to pedestrians.
