What is being built?
Balassagyarmat's green spaces to be renewed as part of a comprehensive programme
Nearly HUF 1.5 billion will be spent to renew Balassagyarmat's green spaces. Under the Green Snail project, Palóc Grove, Gregori Park, Heroes' Square, Ligeti Promenade, the Ipe River Lagoon and the Ipe River bank will be renovated and landscaped, and active recreational elements and tree-lined areas will be created. The project also includes the renovation of municipally-owned commercial premises, a cinema and a cultural service building.
In addition to the above, an action plan for the development and maintenance of the green infrastructure network will be drawn up, as well as the conservation and restoration of landscape and garden architecture in green areas, the repair of footpaths, the installation of composting facilities, the purchase of equipment, the construction of rain shelters and service facilities, road renovation, the development of street lighting and the installation of a CCTV system.
The overall objective of the project is to create a family- and climate-friendly settlement by improving the image of Balassagyarmat, renovating business premises, improving the population retention capacity of the town and the health of the population.
The complex task required the coordinated work of several disciplines
Within the programme, the rehabilitation of the Ipoly backwater was the task of Penta Kft.. During the landscaping work, the company reconstructed the vegetation around the backwater, installed street furniture, signs and waste bins, created a gravel footpath between the backwater and the flood protection embankment, and established rest areas and educational trail stations.
As part of the road construction section works, a pedestrian crossing was constructed on Kóvári road, in the direction of the backwater, and a parking lot was built on Kóvári road, in the vicinity of the pedestrian crossing.
The project also included electrical works: the low-current tasks included the installation of 2 CCTV cameras, while the high-current tasks included the installation of the pedestrian lighting and the electrical supply of the CCTV cameras.
Technicians from Penta Kft. have been working on the creation of a spring reservation and the dredging and clearing of the backwater to prevent the riverbed from encroaching on private property. A sluice gate was built and a footbridge was constructed to control water levels.
The company has shared with us some data on the volumes installed.
