A new level of industrial energy recovery in Várpalota

An electricity storage system will be installed at the Inotal Zrt. site in várpalota, a manufacturer of semi-finished aluminium products. The HUF 3 billion investment, which will be financed with HUF 1.35 billion from EU funds and HUF 1.65 billion from own resources, is expected to be completed by autumn this year, the plant's director said on Friday.

Tamás Németh said that the plant in várpalota will be used to store the electricity generated by the factory's solar power plant and will supply the factory with energy.

A plant with a rated capacity of 10 megawatts (MW) and an energy storage capacity of 20 megawatt hours (MWh) will be built, which will be able to power the company for five hours.

How the energy from the power surplus is used

Speaking about the importance of energy storage, he said that especially on bright summer days, there is often a surplus of power on the grid. This surplus can cause disturbances in the control system, but if it can be fed into batteries, the surplus does not cause disturbances and the energy is conserved and used.

He added: Inotal Zrt. will keep the installed energy storage system in operation for at least ten years after the project is completed, according to the grant contract, and the equipment can operate for 25 years.

Tamás Németh also said that the company manufactures semi-finished aluminium products, including wire, narrow strip for transformers and wire rod.

In 2023, the company had a turnover of €102 million, a profit after tax of €5 million and 284 employees. Its customers - more than 100 - are industrial goods companies, almost all of them from the European Union. Inotal Alumíniumfeldolgozó Zrt. has been operating in Várpalota since 1952.
