Large-scale construction project with a brownfield site arrives in Szeklerland
We recently reported on the completion of a rock wool factory in Székelyföld, Hungary, and now we have news of another investment that fits this description. While last week's article was about the new Knauf Insulation plant in Dicsőszentmárton, Mureș County, which is a member of KÉSZ Csoport member, KÉSZ Romania, we are now reporting on the announcement of a factory construction in Miercurea Ciuc.
A new Mineral Insulation Kft. of Romania, owned by Mineral Insulation Kft. of Budapest, is building a new rock wool factory on the site of a former mining company next to the city's beer plant with an investment of 20 million euros (or 8 billion forints in the mid-range).
The news was reported by maszol.ro reported before the Easter long weekend, which has now been spotted. Mayor Attila Korodi and Zsolt Orbán, owner and director of the investment company, held a press conference. As the article reveals, they announced that a letter of intent had been signed at the beginning of the month for the project, which had been in the planning stages for four years, regarding support for the investment.
"The town hall is very pleased to see the arrival of a €20 million private investment that is estimated to create around 70 jobs. It is also very important for us that the brownfield investment will be on the site of an old, run-down industrial site."
- said Attila Korodi.
One and a half years to build
Zoltán Orbán stressed that from a logistical point of view, Csíkszereda was found to be a very advantageous location for the investment, and he also highlighted that the city's location in the central part of the country is a market advantage. He added that as a native of Lövéte, he wanted to help the local community in some way.
Construction will start this summer and the plant is expected to start production by the end of 2026, with a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year, the owner-director said.
