Zalaegerszeg's new cycle path opened up new horizons with three bridges

Thanks to the project, you can cycle from Zalaegerszeg through Teskánd to Zalalövő.

The more than four-kilometre new cycle path connecting Zalaegerszeg with Teskánd, which was built with nearly 600 million forints of EU funding, was inaugurated on Monday, the city's municipality informed MTI. Led by the Zala County Municipality, with the participation of the municipalities of Zalaegerszeg and Teskánd, the 4.13-kilometre cycle path was built in consortium under the TOP Plusz programme, with a grant of more than HUF 594 million.

The project was implemented by Sprint Commercial and Service Kft., according to the zaol.hu previous news item.

It not only provides a link between Teskánd and Zalaegerszeg

The main trail between Teskánd and Zalaegerszeg is almost 3.5 kilometres long, with a 183-metre branch in the north-west of Teskánd, a 326-metre section towards Andráshida and a 149-metre section towards Ebergény. The new cycling facility will not only provide a link between Teskánd and Zalaegerszeg, but will also connect to the Zala Valley cycle route linking Zalalövő to Teskánd. The project will enable cycling from Zalaegerszeg via Teskánd all the way to Zalalövő.

Construction started at the end of October 2024 and the completed route consists of four sections.

Alongside the trail, a new street lighting network was built, nearly 400 metres of closed storm sewers were constructed, and 1,657 metres of embankment were constructed, along with the necessary utilities. Three new bridges have been built on the cycle path, yellow flashing beacons have been installed at road crossings, and labyrinth barriers have been installed at the railway crossing.

A guardrail has been built along 208 metres of the cycle path linking the two settlements, with a further 241 metres to be completed in the coming weeks.
