Up to 1.2 million ducks a year can be reared at the new facility in Tiefkút

The opening ceremony of the Bács-Tak group's waterfowl breeding farm in Mélykút, in the southern part of Bács-Kiskun county, was held on Monday.

One of the largest and most modern plants in the country could be opened in Mélykút, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy at a press conference on the occasion of the completion of the facility. He congratulated the group of companies on the development, saying that such a large-scale development could not have been achieved without the commitment of Hungarian entrepreneurs like the leaders of the Bács-Tak group of companies, who build, invest and apply the latest technologies in the spirit of sustainability, innovation and quality.

The farm was built with nearly HUF 2 billion of state support and is more than just a simple animal farm: it is a unified system of quality, safety, disease control and animal welfare. "A new benchmark in animal husbandry," the minister added:

They can raise up to 1.2 million ducks a year in 30,000 square metres of rearing space, where animal welfare, feeding, watering, temperature control and ventilation are automated.

The closed technology and strict hygiene standards guarantee maximum safety," he explained. The strictest rules will be introduced, even by international standards, to ensure transparency of production and the most important values of the Hungarian food industry: quality and food safety.

Bács-Tak Csoport is one of Hungary's leading waterfowl breeding and marketing groups. It operates in Southern Hungary with 17 sites and has contracts with 50-100 contract breeders, depending on the season. The group's annual consolidated turnover is close to HUF 20 billion, and it processes and sells nearly 30,000 tonnes of duck and meat goose annually. Almost two thirds of sales are exported to Western Europe.
