The nearly HUF 3 billion investment brought complete energy modernisation, new services and state-of-the-art technical systems to the more than 25-year-old Lurdy Ház in Budapest. The complex now operates as a shopping, office and leisure centre.

The Lurdy House in the capital, which has been operating for more than 25 years, has implemented a development programme in recent years with the aim of bringing its operations, technical systems and service offerings in line with the expectations of today's shopping and leisure centres.

As a result of the nearly three billion HUF investment, the interior spaces have been renovated, the service functions have been expanded and modernised, and energy-efficient operating solutions have been implemented. The success of the developments is also supported by the fact that the building now operates in line with international sustainability standards.

– they write in their announcement, which was also published by növekedés.hu and viewed.

The immediate surroundings of Lurdy House, District IX, have undergone spectacular changes in recent years: new office buildings and residential properties have appeared, which has reshaped the local property market while also creating new investment and growth opportunities, they emphasise and add:

The building responded to this with a conscious repositioning: today, it operates as a complex shopping, office and leisure centre that meets both the business needs of its tenants and the changing habits of its visitors.

They emphasise that an increasing proportion of visitors come for services, sporting experiences and community programmes. The refurbished shared office spaces, flexible office spaces, locally available services and convenience of everyday shopping combine to create an attractive working environment that offers real benefits for companies and employees alike.

Complete energy modernisation

The complex, built in 1998 with a floor area of nearly 90,000 m², has undergone complete energy modernisation in recent years. One of the most significant elements of the development is the solar park installed on the roof, which generates approximately 700,000 kWh of renewable energy per year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 250–300 households.

Another pillar of Lurdy House's energy renewal is the new heat pump system, which converts the building's own temperature differences into useful energy. The system intelligently manages the differences resulting from the orientation of the house. It directs the excess heat accumulated on the south side to areas requiring heating, while using the cooler air from the north wing to cool overheated zones.

This solution results in significant energy savings, provides a more consistent temperature and is expected to reduce the amount of energy purchased from the grid by approximately 20%. This is complemented by state-of-the-art building management automation, which allows room-by-room temperature control in individual offices and shops, while centrally controlling the heating and cooling system in common areas and throughout the building. As a result, the building operates much more efficiently and energy-efficiently.

Further elements of the development programme are also listed:

  •     heat protection films on large glass surfaces,
  •     100% LED automated lighting system,
  •     Air technology controlled by CO₂ sensors,
  •     water-saving sanitary ware,
  •     Comprehensive selective waste management with our own sorting table.

A series of international certificates

Lurdy House's sustainability efforts are also supported by international certifications, they write. The process of obtaining the BREEAM In-Use „Very Good” certificate, one of the world's best-known environmental performance measurement standards, is underway. The system evaluates a number of areas, from energy efficiency to water use, transport links and indoor environmental quality to waste management.

In October 2025, Lurdy Ház obtained Access4You Silver Certification, which certifies that the building can be used independently and safely by everyone, from those with mobility, vision or hearing impairments to the elderly. In addition, due to growing market expectations for sustainable operations, Lurdy House has set itself the goal of obtaining ESG certification in the near future.
