What is being built?
A new operations centre is being built at Liszt Ferenc Airport: Airport Service Center, covering nearly 10,000 square metres, is being constructed.
The KÉSZ Építő és Szerelő Zrt. and MERKBAU Zrt. consortium won the general construction contract for Airport Service Center in the next phase of airport development, according to the EU public procurement notice announcement. The aim of the investment is to support more efficient cooperation between organisations involved in ground handling and to modernise the operational infrastructure.
Multiple organisations in one building
The new office building will house ground handling companies, airlines and various organisational units of Budapest Airport. The facility will include offices, warehouses and changing rooms in three zones with different security classifications: ground, controlled ground and SRA areas.
T-shaped building with varying heights
The T-shaped facility, measuring approximately 82×73 metres, will have a ground floor + 1 storey design, while the main building will have a ground floor + 3 storey design. The complex has a net floor area of approximately 9,530 square metres and a planned building height of 12.26 metres, with four lifts providing access. The main supporting structure of the building is made of monolithic reinforced concrete. The ground floor will primarily house service functions, while the upper floors will contain offices.
A complex task awaits the contractors
The successful bidders will be responsible for preparing any changes to the building permit and the detailed design plans, as well as for the complete general construction. The design process will be based on BIM in accordance with the EIR requirements specified in Budapest Airport.
Landscaping is also part of the investment.
The construction task covers not only the building itself, but also the development of the associated external infrastructure. This includes a recreation park, access road, parking spaces, road and utility connections, and green spaces.
Efficiency and sustainability
The primary sustainability goal of the project is to obtain BREEAM Excellent certification, which is also the responsibility of the contractors. The creation of the new Airport Service Center can significantly contribute to increasing the efficiency of airport operations, while providing a modern and sustainable working environment for the professionals involved in daily operations.
