The well-known PICK logo has been displayed at the new factory in Szeged

The company, which employs around 1,500 people, has implemented a number of developments in recent years, the most significant of which is the establishment of a new salami production facility, the construction of which is being managed by Market Építő Zrt.. The iconic PICK logo was hoisted onto the structure of the factory unit under construction on Szabadkai út in Szeged at the end of February 2026, marking an important milestone in the project’s implementation. This is not only a symbolic moment, but also a sign that construction has entered its final phase.

The construction project has reached a milestone

The construction of the new factory has passed several key milestones. A topping-out ceremony was held in April 2025, once the building had reached its highest point. The structure was completed by July 2025, and the logo has now been installed on the building.

Work is currently underway on the internal production areas: the cleanroom walls are being erected, the synthetic resin flooring is being laid, and the final installation of the mechanical and electrical systems is also in progress.

In a confined workspace, alongside an operational plant

The new two-storey hall is connected to the existing production infrastructure, which means that construction is taking place on the site of an operational plant. This requires particularly complex coordination on the part of the contractors.

The work is taking place in an extremely confined space, with as many as 400–450 specialists working on site every day.

Logistical challenges are further compounded by the fact that building materials must be transported to the site from external depots. The contractor therefore manages the work processes using precise daily scheduling and a system known as LEAN.

Strict food industry requirements

Given that this is a food processing facility, the construction must comply with the strictest hygiene and technical standards. Internal surfaces must be fully cleanable and resistant to wear and tear during routine cleaning, and must ensure that no external contaminants can enter the production processes.

The hall is constructed with roof girders spanning 24 metres, featuring a multi-storey design suitable for forklift access. Separate mechanical service levels have been provided above each bay.

The airtightness of the cleanrooms is ensured by approximately 200 kilometres of hand-made flexible seals. During construction, around 1,200 tonnes of steel structures and some 40,000 square metres of cleanroom panels were installed.

Sustainable solutions in the factory

The project also incorporates a number of sustainability features. Solar panels will be installed across the entire roof of the building, which will cover a significant proportion of the plant’s electricity requirements.

The factory site has its own thermal well, which can supply a significant proportion of the plant’s thermal energy requirements. In addition, waste heat generated during the cooling process is recycled back into the system using heat pumps.

The development is being carried out as a brownfield project, so it does not require any new land: demolition materials from the previous buildings have been reused on site, for example as crushed concrete in the construction of roads and floor slabs. The new facility also features highly insulated, „house-within-a-house” style refrigerated spaces, which reduce energy consumption.

Several companies within Market Csoport are working on the project

Several subsidiaries of Market Csoport are involved in the construction work. OKM Építőipari és Szolgáltató Kft. is involved in earthworks and road construction, MRKT Padló Kft. in structural works, PREbeton Zrt. in precast reinforced concrete structures, whilst Moratus Szerkezetépítő Kft. is involved in other construction tasks.

This development will enable Pick Szeged Zrt. to replace its old plant on Maros Street and pave the way for a phased increase in its salami production capacity. The first products from the new facility are expected to reach shops in the first quarter of 2027, with their familiar quality and flavour guaranteed in future by the preservation of the unchanged recipe and traditional production steps (such as smoking and maturing).
