Flórián Square flyovers to be renovated: work to start soon

In the tender for the implementation, KM Építő Kft. was selected as the winner of the procedure and will carry out the modernisation for a net price of HUF 2.1 billion. The total project cost, including the mandatory reserve fund, technical inspection fees, official fees and other costs, is expected to be around HUF 3 billion gross, including VAT.

The necessary funds for the implementation of the project will be provided by the Municipality of Budapest, as decided by the Assembly at its March meeting. The contracting process is expected to be completed by the end of the year, after the end of the contracting moratorium.

The reconstruction of the overpasses could start in the first quarter of 2025 and is expected to last until the first quarter of 2026.

Time for renovation

The technical condition of the flyovers in Óbuda, built more than forty years ago, has deteriorated significantly in the long time since the last intervention. The structure is leaking around the piers, causing the reinforcing steel to rust and the concrete surfaces to deteriorate, so the renovation cannot wait any longer.

During the investment, the experts

• the road surface will be replaced;
• repair defects in the reinforced concrete structure;
• the insulation will be renewed over its entire width, eliminating the cause of leaks above the pillars;
• a new reinforced concrete kerb will be built, on which a new, safer guardrail will be installed;
• a new expansion structure and anchorage will be installed at both ends of the bridges;
• repair defects in the drainage system, retaining walls, bridge abutments and concrete surfaces of piers, and
• special attention is also paid to the integrity of archaeological finds.

One flyover will always be open for two-way traffic

Due to the nature of the works, temporary restrictions on traffic on the carriageway will be in place during the renovation, but the two flyovers will be worked on separately, so one will always be reserved for two-way traffic. During the works, the traffic flow on tram 1 will also be changed for shorter periods.
