The contract for the motorway between Oradea and Thessaloniki has been signed

According to a statement by the Bihar County Council, the contract for the construction of the first section of the Arad–Oradea expressway was signed in recent days at the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport in Bucharest, as reported by reported by erdon.ro. The event was attended by, among others, Sorin Grindeanu, Minister of Transport, Cristian Pistol, Mircea Mălan, President of the County Council, and Florin Birta, Mayor of Oradea.

As the head of CNAIR stated, the project is worth a net 2.32 billion lei (equivalent to approximately 183 billion Hungarian forints at the current exchange rate), of which a 33.7-kilometre-long, 2×2-lane project financed by EU funds will be implemented. According to the contract, the plans are to be implemented within 24 months, and the winning consortium consists of the Romanian company Precon Transilvania and the Ukrainian company Automagistral Pivden.

More investment to come to build the full motorway

The kronika.ro summarised that the total length of the Arad–Oradea expressway will be 120.47 kilometres, and the investment will take place in three phases:

• 33.7 km of the section between Oradea and Salonika, which has just been negotiated and was the first to be awarded to a contractor,
• the section between Nagyszalonta and Kisjenő is 39.7 km (to which is added the 10 km link to the Hungarian border,
• and 47.07 km between Kisjenő and Arad (including the 2.9 km link road to the industrial area of Arad).
