The MKIF will widen the M1 motorway to 3×3 lanes - upgrading and replacing the drainage network in some places.

Over the past year, we have regularly reported on the various preparatory stages of the M1 widening project, and on 1 September the contractor Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. started work on the main line widening.

At the current stage of construction, the removal of vegetation from the inner separation lane is ongoing in several locations, followed by the repair of existing drainage systems, where necessary they will be cleaned and where necessary completely rebuilt," MKIF reports on its Facebook page.

They stress that these works are essential to allow the new traffic regime (2+1+1 diversion), which will start in mid-September, to be put in place, which will also allow the embankment to be widened.

For information on traffic on the M1 motorway, continuously updated, up-to-date information is available here. In his post, MKIF confirmed his earlier statement: 2×2 lanes will be available to motorists throughout the entire duration of the expansion.

As part of the M1 extension, the section between the M0 and Bicske will be completed by the end of August 2028, and the section up to the Concó rest area in the Bábolna area will be completed by the end of August 2029, after which the development will continue. The 78 km long motorway 1 will be extended to 2×3 lanes, plus one intelligent stop lane per side to be used as a full-fledged traffic lane. This will allow up to 2*4 lanes between Budapest and Győr.
