The project involves widening the tunnel on the road from Biatorbágy to Páty, in line with the widening of the M1 motorway running above it.

During a heatwave, simply getting to work can be a major challenge, but it’s on a whole other level when the work is carried out outdoors in 40-degree heat. In light of this, the work of road builders during this period seems nothing short of heroic: it is no coincidence that MKIF in his latest post following the works on the M1 that the temperature at which the tarmac is laid is 160–180 degrees, and that it takes 12–24 hours for a single layer to cool down!

The news report covers the works on Torbágyi Road, which links Biatorbágy with Pátty and crosses the M1 motorway – currently undergoing expansion – in a north-south direction.

As part of this project, the tunnel running beneath the Torbágyi út motorway had to be widened in line with the widening of the M1 motorway running above it. The length of the tunnel increased from 93 metres to 117 metres during the works; this was necessary to accommodate the widened carriageway and the new embankment above it.

Development is making great progress in four days; services are set to start on Monday

According to the report from MKIF, the specialists had already laid the binder course by Thursday morning, and on Friday they will lay the top course, i.e. the wearing course. Following this, traffic management preparations will take place over the weekend: these will include, amongst other things, the painting of road markings and the installation of road signs.

As a result of all this, motorists will be able to use the refurbished section from midday on Monday 3 August. Traffic will be allowed to proceed in alternating directions on a single lane, with traffic lights and traffic wardens directing the flow.

The project is continuing even as traffic resumes: next week, salt-spreading work and kerb construction will take place.
