132 km of pipeline network to be built in Banská Štiavnica

This time we present a development of the Romanian subsidiary of SZABADICS in the North-Eastern Transylvania region.

The subsidiary of SZABADICS Zrt. subsidiary, SZABADICS Romania S.R.L. The company, which numerous similar projects in various parts of Transylvania, began work on the CN1051100 (CL12) project in Bistrița-Năsăud on 15 January 2024.

 

 

The development involves five municipalities:

  • Extension of drinking water and waste water networks in Căianu Mic;
  • Ispan Field (Spermezeu),
  • In Târlișua (Upper Silesia),
  • Zagreb (Zagra)
  • and the construction of the water supply system in Magyarnemegye (Nimigea).

 

 

The municipalities form a rural micro-agglomeration within the Romanian administrative system, so each sub-project is a multi-municipal work. The total investment is worth around 74.8 million lei net (around HUF 5.95 billion at the current mid-market exchange rate).

 

Preparing for an early finish

 

 

During the entire work, SZABADICS Romania S.R.L. experts will construct a new pipeline network of more than 132 kilometres. By the beginning of August, 39.5 kilometres of this total had been completed, which represents more than 28 percent of the project. As Orban Cristian, project manager, said, the total time available to complete the job is 24 months, but the plan is to finish the work sooner, by the end of 2025.

 

 

Currently, works are underway in the agglomeration of Little Kajana and Ispánmező, with the connection of all residents in the villages of Little Kajana, Căianu Mare, Dobric and Ciceu Poieni to the sewerage and wastewater networks, and the construction of new drinking water supply systems in the villages of Ispánmező, Dumbrăvita and Dobricel.

In the course of the project, the specialists who will bring piped water to households where there was none before will face a number of challenges, not least because of the area's previous disadvantaged situation. For example, the available technical drawings often do not reflect the actual conditions and have to be measured beforehand, which of course takes a considerable amount of time. However, as they have well-trained people who are able to master the situation, this is only a minor hindrance," says the project manager.

 

 

Protecting new roads

When asked about what was also the biggest challenge, he said that the problem was installing the pipelines in green areas where the asphalt layer on the roadway was still under warranty, because the connections had to be drilled without damaging the roadbed. In addition, it was found that there are open trenches for stormwater drainage using monolithic concrete, where it is practically impossible to make the connections using the open trench method according to the technical design.

 

 

Finally, the project leader also pointed out that the investors and the contractors have developed a close and good cooperation after the signing of the contract. Regular weekly and monthly co-operations are organised to monitor the progress of each sub-project and to solve any problems that may arise. Detailed progress reports are prepared to increase transparency and trust between partners. The control mechanisms that are part of the project thus contribute to the effective implementation of the works.
