A measure of solidarity: 90% of the company's employees participated in the SZABADICS sports day

Published

On 16 May, the SZABADICS Group Sports Day was held, where, as is tradition, we were given an insight into the future of the company.

Every year, the SZABADICS Group organises a Sports Day, in which all of the company's employees (approximately 250 people) can participate. While team competitions were held in the morning, with teams from the group's subsidiaries, divisions and various departments competing against each other, in the afternoon, colleagues were free to try out various activities, such as teqball, giant table football, card games and the increasingly popular cornhole. As Szabadics Roland, Chief Operating Officer, emphasised in his welcome speech: „We have tried to put together a varied programme so that everyone can find something to their liking. This event would be nothing without you, so

try out the tools, consume to your heart's content and have fun on this day, it's all about you!"

Colleagues came from hundreds of kilometres away

Szabadics Roland also pointed out:

"This event is very important for us because we believe that these events help to bring the Group together, which is not an easy task. The distance between our two furthest offices, Prelog and Cluj-Napoca, is about 700 km. However, for us everyone is equally important and our new logo reflects this."

The family nature of the company is reflected in the fact that the children of several of their employees have taken on the role of animators. In this context, the Chief Operating Officer also informed the employees that the company applied for the "Family-friendly workplace certification mark" this year, "which we are very likely to obtain based on the material we submitted", he confirmed.

Adapt to market opportunities

Szabadics In keeping with Roland's tradition, in addition to summarising the previous year, he also provided an outlook for the future of the company:

"In his closing speech, President Tamás Kovács pointed out that last year was not an easy one: it was a year of many struggles and compromises, mainly due to the geographical location and technical content of the projects; and due to the projects that were awarded, postponed or not awarded, our results in many areas were below the usual results of previous years.

Well, this year is no easier, and we see the market struggling even more for projects.

As Charles Darwin said, "it is not the strongest that survive, but those who can adapt that survive". We try to adapt to the market opportunities, because we have opportunities - because we have created them with our past performance and references.

Taking risks for the future of SZABADICS

"We can provide security for all employees," the director continued, "and we are determined to ensure that everyone can work on a project that matches their skills and competences - we do a lot to achieve this. Despite the tougher market situation, we believe we were able to implement a motivating pay rise across the Group at the beginning of the year. We are currently in a situation where we have to move out of our comfort zone, as we have jobs abroad, in Croatia or Tokaj, for example, forcing many people to work weeks away from home.

We thank you all for your efforts and compromises, and we are looking for opportunities, not afraid to venture into riskier investments or unknown areas in order to provide you with work and livelihoods.

Many of us work hard to achieve these things, and in return we ask you to deliver punctual, high-quality and demanding work in all areas. My uncle Zoltan used to say that you have to paint the hotel first, then you can bring in the guests. The current period is all about renovating our hotel, our group of companies - by that I mean the change of image, digital tools, upgrading the corporate management system and many other internal improvements.

In addition to these, our sustainability efforts must be highlighted. We are determined to reduce the use of bottled water as much as possible, so to help us achieve this, we have included the canteens in the backpacks you will receive, please use them and keep up with us on this journey."

Almost everyone took part

SZABADICS Group's Marketing and Communications Assistant helped me to learn more about the details of the programme. As he said:

"Over 90% of our Group's employees, nearly 240 colleagues attended the event; not only from all over Hungary, but also from Croatia and Romania!"

In addition to team games such as spinning contest, movie quiz, SZABADICS history games, drinks tasting, etc., the afternoons were filled with various board and card games and outdoor sports activities for colleagues. "These games were a great success and the afternoon was also spent in a good atmosphere," he said.

"This day of sports and fun," he stressed, "is an excellent opportunity to break down the barriers of distance between us and build new bridges and connections."

The feedback from colleagues was very good and the day was spent in a good atmosphere. Unfortunately, the strong winds were not in our favour, but the organisers of the event tried to make sure that this did not affect the fun. Next year, the organisers are planning big changes, but we won't reveal them yet, so let's keep it a surprise."
