Ten million tonnes of asphalt: the SWIETELSKY Magyarország reaches a milestone

Published

Swietelsky Magyarország Kft. operates a total of nine asphalt mixers in the country, reaching this milestone at their mixing plant in Múcsony.

As one of the key players in domestic road development, SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft. is an indispensable player in domestic road development, with asphalt production representing an important part of its activities. With its nine asphalt mixers, it covers virtually the entire country. The company has been involved in asphalt production in Hungary since 1991 and, over the past three decades, has grown to become one of the country's leading road construction and infrastructure development companies.

The company's national data totalled ten million tonnes in the autumn, specifically at the Múcsony plant. The first asphalt mixer, the SWIETELSKY, was installed here in 2005, and in 2020, significant improvements were made to the plant, with the inauguration of a brand new mixer manufactured by the Swiss company Amman. We reported on this in detail <a href="https://magyarepitok.hu/iparagi-hirek/2020/09/this-article.

Production at the mixing plant in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County is strong in its own right: it will soon exceed one million tonnes of asphalt.

The entire length of the Earth's equator could be paved with this amount.

As a point of interest, the company's experts calculated that the asphalt they have produced to date would be enough to pave the entire length of the Earth's equator with a 10-centimetre-thick, one-metre-wide layer – which gives a good idea of the scale of the work they have done.

„We are proud to have produced ten million tonnes of asphalt in Hungary. This figure reflects not only our technological progress, but also the dedication of our employees.”

– announced the company's management in connection with the event.

SWIETELSKY is currently involved in numerous domestic road construction and renovation projects and continues to follow the principles of sustainable, modern road construction. The ten millionth tonne of asphalt is therefore not just a number, but also a symbol of three decades of professional development and persistent work.

Görbeháza and Szarvas are getting ready

We looked back on the significant milestones of the Múcsony site and the entire asphalt production sector with Barna Vajvoda, regional chief engineer. „The Mucsony plant has produced approximately 960,000 tonnes of asphalt to date, and we are confident that we will reach one million tonnes by 2026,” he said.

The mixer is currently performing ongoing work for the Regional Chief Engineer's Office on behalf of Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt., as well as work on Route 25, maintenance and development work in the BorsodChem Zrt. area, and orders from external customers.

He also revealed that the ten millionth tonne of asphalt was laid during resurfacing work between Felsőtelekes and Szuhakálló.

Comparing the quantities with other sites: next year, the Dunakeszi plant will reach a total asphalt production of 3 million tonnes, which is an outstanding result even on a national level, while the Csorna and Székesfehérvár mixing plants have already exceeded the 1 million tonne mark.

Next in line among the large numbers are the mixing plants in Görbeháza and Szarvas.

There is no respite in winter, only different tasks to perform.

During the winter period, although production declines, the mixing plants do not close. The expert explained that asphalt production usually stops in mid-December, followed by maintenance work, repairs, equipment replacements and the implementation of internal investments until the beginning of April.

„We are preparing for the next season to ensure the highest possible operational reliability and continuous availability,” he summarised. Barna Vajvoda finally added that, in pre-agreed, individual cases, the site is able to meet asphalt production demands even during the winter period by using alternative heating methods other than natural gas.
