The MVM Network is upgrading more than 200 kilometres of its electricity network, and as part of this project series, the transmission line spanning 50 metres above the Tisza near Szentes was also stretched.

It is replacing 10 per cent of the 2182 km long high-voltage network of MVM with capacity-increasing wire and insulation, reconstructing transmission lines and building new lines , according to information published on the MVM Network website.  This will renew more than 200 kilometres of the high-voltage MVM power grid stretching from north-eastern Hungary to the southern Great Plain. One of the most spectacular elements of this is the new transmission line already stretched across the Tisza between Csongrád and Szentes.

As reported, the MVM Démász Áramhálózati Kft. electricity network will be upgraded at a cost of HUF 5.3 billion between Csongrád and Szentes: as part of the company's most significant high-voltage network construction investment currently underway, a 132 kV transmission line will be built over a 16.8 km section.

This will not only make energy supply more secure and sustainable for people in the region, but the work will also increase capacity to connect more users to the grid and meet growing energy demand.

The risks of floodplain construction were also addressed

They point out that the project is unique in that a section of the high-voltage power line is located in the floodplain of the Tisza and above the river, which made the construction more challenging than usual.

The project had to take into account the risk of flooding in the early spring, and MVM constructed the foundations in the floodplain, with the foundations raised to a height of at least 7 metres above ground level, in accordance with more stringent than usual standards, due to the risk of flooding and inland water.

61 support poles erected

The next phase of the investment was the spectacular crossing of the power line over the Tisza River near Szentes. In accordance with order MVM Démász , employees of MVM Xpert used pre-strung cables to pull the transmission line wires across the river between two support towers erected opposite each other on the right and left banks, so that the high-voltage transmission line now stretches 50 metres above the Tisza.

They say that the company began installing the high-temperature driftwood, which has a significant transmission capacity, after the 61 support poles for the transmission line had been erected.

The development will be completed by the end of the year

The project is currently upgrading the technical equipment of the substation in Svetes, which will enable the substation to accommodate new lines in addition to the existing ones.

The grid development, expected to be completed by the end of 2024, is needed mainly due to the new and significantly increased energy demand of industrial facilities in Szeged and Kecskemét, and the connection of nearly twenty solar parks in the region to the grid in the coming years.
