Nestlé's Serenc factory gets its own solar power plant
Nestlé's factory in Serenc will be expanded with a new solar park with an annual capacity of 1.5 gigawatts with an investment of more than HUF 700 million with the support of Nemzeti Befektetési Ügynökség (HIPA), the company announced on 22 November.
The system will be operational in March next year at Nestlé's regional coffee and cocoa powder production and filling centre in Central Europe and will cover around 30 percent of the electricity needs of the Serenc plant and almost 21 percent of its total energy needs. The energy generated by the new solar park would be sufficient for the annual consumption of up to 650-700 households.
According to the announcement, Nestlé Hungária Kft. has invested a total of HUF 9 billion in the last few years in the 100-year-old Serenc plant, where the continuous modernisation of production has created new jobs. The plant currently employs 500 people and has an annual production capacity of 40,000 tonnes. HIPA is supporting the investment with 45 percent of the total value, they said.
The more than 150-year-old food company, present in 189 countries around the world, employs more than 2,800 people in its three Hungarian factories in Szerenc, Miskolc (Diósgyőr) and Bük, and its headquarters in Budapest. The Swiss company has been present in Hungary for more than 30 years, and most of the suppliers of the Nestlé Hungária are Hungarian companies, selling products and services worth a total of HUF 54 billion annually to Nestlé's global network.
