Awards ceremony - The Ethnographic Museum and the House of Hungarian Music voted the two best public buildings in the world
At the awards ceremony in Singapore for the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence – one of the most prestigious international property development awards – the museum designed by Marcel Ferencz was awarded a gold medal, according to a press release from Városliget Zrt.. The Museum of Ethnography and Visitor Centre is ZÁÉV Építőipari Zrt. – Magyar Építő Zrt. consortium.
Two of the world's best public buildings are next to each other in Budapest
The City Park is home to two of the world's best public buildings, after the music initiation institution designed by Japanese star architect Fujimoto Su, the Hungarian House of Music, designed by Japanese star architect Su Fujimoto, also won an award at the FIABCI international awards ceremony. The general contractor for the building was also Magyar Építő Zrt..
The jury of international experts judged the two special institutions to be the best in the world in terms of sustainability, aesthetics and visitor experience, making them the most awarded buildings in Hungary,

Benedek Gyorgyevics, CEO of Városliget Zrt., the Liget Budapest project responsible for the implementation of the Városliget Zrt. project, said in the statement:
In addition to winning prestigious awards like the Oscars and Nobel Prizes in architecture, the fact that the Ethnographic Museum represented Hungary in the Hungarian pavilion at one of the world's most prestigious cultural events, the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale, is also a testament to the quality of the Ethnographic Museum's building.
International jury rewards the most successful property developments
Founded in 1951 and active in over 60 countries, the Paris-based International Real Estate Association, FIABCI, organises the annual FIABCI World Prix d'Excellence (FIABCI World Prix d'Excellence), which aims to select and recognise the most successful real estate developments.
The international jury was composed of 63 distinguished professionals from 31 countries, representing a specific sector of the real estate development profession, according to a press release.
The roof garden of the museum has become a popular meeting place
An international design competition was launched in 2016 for the design of the Ethnographic Museum. From the world-class field, the international jury unanimously selected a Hungarian design by NAPUR Architect, led by Marcel Ferencz, as the winner.
The Liget Budapest Project was implemented by ZÁÉV Zrt. and Magyar Építő Zrt. The Óbuda Group in consortium with Főber Zrt. was responsible for project management, technical inspection and cost management for the development.
Located on the edge of the City Park, in the Fifty-six Square, the building, which evokes two interlocking hillsides, opened in May 2022. Its special feature is a façade decoration made of nearly half a million pixels, a contemporary reinterpretation of 20 Hungarian and 20 international ethnographic motifs.
A rooftop garden of more than 7,000 square metres, the highest point of which offers a beautiful panorama and has become a popular meeting place.
In addition to interactive exhibitions, the institution presents ethnographic material of Hungarian and international relevance.
Ornamental rain falls on the uniquely shaped museum building
The building has already won numerous professional awards: in 2018, it was voted the world's best public building based on its design at the International Property Awards in London, the most prestigious international architecture and real estate competition, and was also awarded the Best Architecture grand prize. In 2022, it won the top prize in the cultural category at the prestigious Swiss Built Design Awards, first place in the cultural category at the Chinese Idea-Tops Awards, while it was also voted top of its category at the London International Creative Competition and was awarded "Excellent Architecture" by the German German Design Awards. The prestigious Dutch Archello Awards and the Italian Inside Quality Design Awards selected it as one of the best projects of 2022. Last year, the US Time Magazine included the Ethnographic Museum in its collection World’s Greatest Places, and this year the building also won the Paris Design Award and the International Architecture Award, and was named best in the ARCHITIZER A+ AWARD "Museum Architecture" and "Architecture and Facade" categories.
The House of Hungarian Music has won the recognition of both the profession and the public
Another building in the Liget Project, the Hungarian House of Music, is equally popular among professionals and tourists alike. The building, which has also been recognised with the Construction Industry Quality Award recognised for the realisation of the building on our portal regularly reported. The project was carried out by Magyar Építő Zrt.. Based on the plans of Japanese star architect Shu Fujimoto (with the domestic contribution of M-Teampannon Kft. with domestic participation), the building was completed with the participation of subcontractors including Épszerk-Pannónia Invest Kft. (structural engineering) and Weinberg "93 Építő Kft. (steel structures) also contributed. The project was carried out by Óbuda-Újlak Zrt. and Főber Zrt..
Opened in January 2022, it has become a public favourite and is one of the most visited cultural institutions in the world.
It has also earned numerous awards and accolades: it was named "The World's Most Anticipated Building" by CNN, and in 2022 it was selected as one of the "World's Best Cultural Attractions" by Time Out magazine.
The Hungarian House of Music has been included in the patina Architectural Digest Magazine 2023 collection of the most influential international attractions, and the Time Magazine, along with the Ethnographic Museum, has been included in the World’s Greatest Places collection, which determines the travel choices of millions of its readers. The cumulative effect of all this is that in 2023, the Liget Budapest Project won its first tourism-themed award, voted the world's best tourism development in the International Travel Awards competition.
