Construction on the site of the former BM hospital could start in the second half of the year.

As previously reported , the design competition for the Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum was successfully concluded nearly a year ago, with the joint entry by Tér és Forma Szeged Építéstervező Kft. and BIVAK studio Kft. emerging as the winner.

Attila Turi, President of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, spoke about the development at the Pesti Vigadó, where he held a press conference at the start of the year, according to kultura.hu.

The architect stressed that the construction plans will be ready by spring at the BIVAK architectural office.

Professional answers on two hectares

The building will be located on the site of the former BM hospital, a two-hectare area on the corner of Városligeti fasor and Bajza utca. Here, the redundant parts have been demolished, while the rest will be renovated and converted. The ground floor of the centre will be open to the public.

The project will include a public park, an events courtyard and renovated villas, with different functions, as well as a Public House, where engineering offices and technical organisations will be on hand to answer any regulatory or technical questions about the construction, according to the article.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, which is enriched with ever-changing elements, the museum has rooms ideal for temporary exhibitions and professional conferences and events.

"The idea that architecture can solve everything has been a misguided trend for the last hundred years. Without the arts, our spaces are empty."

-said Attila Turi.

Multivisual space

Hungarian Art Nouveau is a worldwide concept, and the roof of the building with its 72,000 tiles is a reminder of this. The Space Box - a space with moving walls and ceilings - will help visitors to experience the essence of architectural space.

It is planned that the location of the main building will be an emblematic sight on arrival at the institution. The main building will present its longest "face" through the urban square, which will be open to the public from Bajza Street and will serve as a representative entrance to the complex.

The Magyar Hírlap quotes the president of the MMA as follows: „This building is not merely a museum and service centre. We want to create a multi-visual space in which the inner essence of our architecture, the art of space, can be experienced through projections, moving walls and music.”

The Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum, which will be built near the City Park, will offer an experience similar to that of the Hungarian House of Music or the Museum of Ethnography.
