In total, 650 metres of the Adriatic coast will be used for Hungarian trade and 30 hectares of land will be available for the construction of the facility.

The construction of the Hungarian port of Trieste has started, and on this occasion Levente Magyar, Minister of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, held a site visit on Thursday.

Construction starts with 50 thousand cubic metres of filling

The construction of the Hungarian port, which will start with the construction of a huge section of the coastline and a 50,000 cubic metre filling on the Hungarian state-owned land in northern Italy, is planned to be fully operational by 2028 and will serve Hungarian goods exports, he said.

In this photo released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFA), Levente Magyar, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (j), at the site visit of the Hungarian port of Trieste on 20 February 2025.

He said that in the first round, a 250-metre stretch of coastline will be built, which will be extended by about 400 metres, giving Hungary a total of 650 metres of coastline on the Adriatic.

In addition, 30 hectares of land are available for development, where a large logistics centre will be built, including the facilities needed for maritime operations.

Levente Magyar also reported that he held important negotiations with representatives of the Italian government, including Edoardo Rixi, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, who has been a partner throughout the process of establishing the port and will help Hungarian exporters and Hungarian companies to be more effective on the world market in a few years.
