A bus station would be added to the railway station in the picturesque Vasi town

According to an announcement published in the European Union's Public Procurement Bulletin announcement, a new bus station would be built in the area of the Kőszeg railway station. According to the announcement, the task would include, among other things, the construction of a new local and intercity bus station between the station building and the tracks by extending the joint train and bus platform created in the GYSEV Zrt. project. The development would add six additional bus bays for boarding and alighting passengers to the two existing ones.

Improving the road network around the station

The common platform would also include three covered passenger lounges and an enclosed heated-cooled platform lounge. The project includes the construction of a new 95.36 m long road in the forestry area, from the extension of the common platform to the junction with the main road 87. This would significantly improve the transport facilities around the station, with the station being accessible from the south-west from the main road 87 and the new road would also provide access from this direction. The project includes the construction of a storage facility for 10 buses.

Fifty-four parking spaces are also part of the project

New car parks would also be built on the station site, 54 in total, but this would require the demolition of a 252-metre-long siding and a warehouse on the site. The siding would also be eliminated alongside the track, so the contractor will also have to build track and carry out track regulation works on the siding.
Access to the new car park will be from the main road 87 from the junction of Szombathelyi út - Rákóczi út, via Vasútállomás street. The Vasútállomás street would be rebuilt on a new track from the main road to the
reception building. At the junction, traffic lights will be installed as specified in the tender and new pedestrian crossings will be installed.

Cycling network also affected by comprehensive development

The 2×1 lane inland section of the 87 motorway between sections 45+100 - 45+490 km can be renewed for 390 metres, according to the notice. The Kőszegfalvi cycle path is planned to be connected to the intermodal junction on the right side of the 87 main road, and will be routed through the main road and connected to the cycling bridge being built by the municipality.
Due to the construction of the crossing, the rail track will be
replaced and regulated between sections 5+98.66 - 6+54.46 hm due to the change in track alignment, and a loudspeaker post will be relocated.

The interior of the railway station will also be renovated

The project will also include the refurbishment of the interior of the railway station reception building and the renewal of the social block. A park will also be built in front of the station.
