The public procurement procedure, which has been conditionally launched, concerns two healthcare projects: hospital renovation and the construction of a new ambulance station.

The public procurement tender conditionally announced by Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium also concerns the demolition and reconstruction of part of the hospital in Zalaegerszeg and an existing ambulance station that is in very poor condition, according to TED.

As part of the two-part project, the infectious diseases ward of the Zala County St. Rafael Hospital will be partially renovated, where the National Ambulance Service will be able to set up a temporary ambulance station, and a completely new ambulance station will be built on Ady Endre Street.

Paramedics can take possession of a wing that has been vacant for years

The 300-bed Lung Sanatorium, which opened in 1962, is located in the village of Pózva, five kilometres from the town. As no major renovations have been carried out on the three-storey building, it is in poor condition and has poor energy efficiency.

In 2018, the ground floor was vacated by the hospital and has been empty ever since. Approximately half of this floor (about three-quarters of one wing) will be given to the National Ambulance Service to set up a temporary ambulance station. The gross floor area affected by the investment is 550 m2. It is expected to provide accommodation for a total of 70 people.

The condition of the building has deteriorated significantly, the paintwork on the walls is damaged in many places, the cladding is incomplete, window panes are missing in several places, the window frames are outdated, and the doors and windows are also in poor condition. Therefore, the following major works will be carried out during the renovation:

  • Internal wall plastering,
  • Bricklaying,
  • Construction of plasterboard partition walls,
  • Removal of suspended ceilings and cladding,
  • Flooring installation,
  • Construction of steel support structure,
  • Painting doors, windows, radiators, pipes,
  • Wall painting,
  • IT system development,
  • Placement of IT endpoints,
  • Design of radio antennas,
  • Installation of systems 104 and 112,
  • Installation of SPLIT air conditioners,
  • Roof renovation with waterproofing, as well as
  • Installation of mobile vehicle parking facilities.

An ambulance station with a roof terrace and green roof may be built

Another element of the project is the demolition of the Zalaegerszeg ambulance station and its replacement with a new building. The modern building, with a gross floor area of 2,100 m², will meet the expectations and requirements of the modern age. According to the plans, the ambulance station will have a staff of approximately 75.

The existing and remaining GP surgery is located in the south-western corner of the site affected by the development, to which the ambulance station building is currently attached in a closed row. This will be demolished during the development and the new building will also be attached in a closed row. The existing buildings on the plot will be demolished. The planned building will be connected to the GP's surgery in a closed row.

The building will have a flat roof, an underground car park, a ground floor and two upper floors.

The road junction towards Ady Endre Street will also be widened, as it is necessary to ensure that emergency vehicles can exit the area, and to facilitate traffic entering and exiting the underground car park from this direction.

The basement level of the planned ambulance station will accommodate nine ambulances and ten passenger cars, as well as storage, archive and warehouse space. The upper levels will be accessible via a closed staircase and lift.

The ground floor houses the reception area, kitchenette, men's, women's and accessible toilets, garage master's office, head nurse's office and station manager's office. Upon reaching the upper floor, two wings with central corridors are accessed via the staircase or lift. The north wing houses offices, while the west wing contains changing rooms, toilets, and rest areas.

The second floor houses classrooms, a meeting room, a kitchenette and a bathroom. The rooms are limited to part of the west wing, so a roof terrace can be built on the north wing and a green roof on the west wing facing the street. A green-roofed car wash is planned to replace the garage to be demolished, to which functionally related rooms will be connected, such as a hazardous waste storage room, a disinfection room and a washing equipment room.
