KÉSZ Csoport is renovating a unique castle in Székelyföld
Renovation work is proceeding according to schedule at one of the largest castles in Szeklerland: Szilárd Bartalis, an employee of the Kálnoky Castle in Sepsikőröspatak renovation project, as well as Tibor Kálnoky, of the Kálnoky Foundation, KÉSZ Csoport Romanian subsidiary, and Tibor Kálnoky, founder of the Kálnoky Foundation, in a video posted on Facebook by KÉSZ Romania on the website.
The monument is one of the largest castles in Háromszék and probably in the entire Székely Land, pointed out Tibor Kálnoky while speaking on site. He also emphasised that the building has been inhabited since the 16th century and every generation has made changes to it, so the great challenge is to revive these different styles. An important goal of the project is to present all of this not just in fragments, but to restore a sense of continuity.
This is how the work is progressing
As Szilárd Bartalis explains, the castle itself is a complex, U-shaped building complex covering nearly 2,000 square metres. It comprises three wings:
- the south guest wing,
- the eastern wing of the palace,
- as well as the northern chapel and café wing.
In the video, he also reports that work is underway in the cellar and the adjoining stairwell, while showing the sites in question. A washroom is being built, and the open portico above it, which was demolished at the end of the last century, is also being rebuilt.
In the so-called flower room of the eastern wing of the palace, where fragments of 18th-century murals can be found, a painted, carved beam ceiling is being restored. Szilárd Bartalis also presents this process, then moves on to the renovation tasks in the south wing, and talks in detail about the careful restoration work on the roof structures, which treats the original structure with great respect.
KÉSZ Romania is expected to complete the full renovation of the building complex by next summer.
