Construction has begun on the third METRANS terminal in Hungary. The facility will create a direct link between the economy of the Southern Great Plain and European ports.

One of Europe's most modern rail-road terminals is being built in Szeged by the German-based company METRANS, said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new investment. He explained that the project will be completed by 2027 and will be extremely important for the logistics of the BYD factory, as well as opening new doors for the southern Great Plain economic region. The terminal will create a direct link between the region and European ports, he said.

The logistics centre will be able to handle 300,000 containers per year.

The project is worth approximately six billion Hungarian forints, with the state providing 860 million forints in support, thereby contributing to the creation of at least fifty new jobs. The company is now starting to build its third logistics centre in Hungary, which will be able to handle 300,000 containers per year, making Szeged a significant centre even by international standards.

According to the report by szeged.hu report , the Szeged terminal of METRANS will be built on a ten-hectare site in Kiskundorozsma with two huge gantry cranes and four loading tracks, which will be able to handle up to six trains per day.

Péter Kiss, Chairman and CEO of the METRANS Group, spoke, among other things, about the company's presence in thirteen European countries, where it operates twenty terminals and transports 650 container trains per week across the continent.

Mayor László Botka also explained that, in addition to BYD, the company will serve several other companies in the region, including Serbia and Romania. This will strengthen cross-border economic cooperation, accelerate the flow of goods and open up new opportunities for businesses in the Southern Great Plain.
