The contractor for the extension of the university sports hall in Gödöllő has been selected
A major investment project is set to begin at the Gödöllő campus of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences. According to the EU public procurement notice announcement, the bid submitted by Strukta Group Ingatlanforgalmazási, Építőipari és Kereskedelmi Kft. was deemed the most favourable bid for the extension and renovation of the sports hall on Páter Károly Street. As we previously reported, the same company also won the tender for the modernisation of the Municipal Sports Hall in Százhalombatta.
In Gödöllő, the developer plans to create a multifunctional facility that would primarily host university sporting events and functions, whilst also offering a wide range of uses for students and the local community.
The ring will be lowered and the floor space will be increased through an extension
During the development, the existing two-storey reinforced concrete and steel-framed hall, built in the 1970s, will be modernised whilst retaining its structural system. The building is surrounded by a reinforced concrete „frame”, from the centre of which the steel-framed hall rises. The reinforced concrete section comprises service rooms, foyers and a corridor serving the spectator area.
Thanks to its multifunctional design, the building will be suitable for athletics training, team sports, table tennis, judo and gymnastics sessions, as well as for hosting cultural and public events. The required internal height of 8.55 metres is achieved by lowering the competition area. The facility’s net floor area will be expanded by more than 1,500 square metres to 4,635 square metres.
BREEAM certification with green solutions
A key element of the project is the implementation of sustainability measures: as part of the revised technical specifications, a green façade and green roof will be installed, and a rainwater harvesting system will also be put in place. During the project, the contractor will comprehensively upgrade the building’s mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems, and will also install state-of-the-art security and operational solutions. Throughout the design and construction phases, the client requires compliance with the criteria necessary for BREEAM certification.
More than five hundred people will be able to cheer from the stands
The renovated hall will feature a 1,014-square-metre competition area fitted with specialist sports flooring, whilst the permanent stands will provide seating for 509 spectators, with accessible access. The development extends beyond the building itself: the area surrounding the main entrance will also be refurbished. The project thus presents both technical and organisational challenges, yet it has the potential to play a pivotal role in the university’s sporting and community life in the long term.
