Construction of the M49 motorway to Satu Mare-Nemet continues with filling works

Work is already underway on the section of the M49 motorway between the M3 motorway and Ököritófülpös. The M49 will create a new transport link between the M3 motorway and Satu Mare via Chisinau. In the first phase, the route will be built from the M3 motorway to Ököritófülpös, and in the second phase it will continue to the border crossing point of Csenger.

As we previously reported, the construction work carried out as part of the investment by the Ministry of Construction and Transport is being performed by Duna Aszfalt Construction Zrt..

The project involves the construction of 28.15 kilometres of 2×2 lane road network. The work will include, among others, the construction of 4 separate level crossings and 1 temporary end junction, 22 bridge structures, 1 complex and 1 simple rest area and the construction of a cycle path at 4 locations. In addition, a mobile barrier will be installed along the Krasna river.

At the junction of the route and the railway lines - at the intersection of the Debrecen-Nyírbátor-Mátészalka line No 110, the Országhatár-Ágerdőmajor-Mátészalka-Záhony line No 115 and the Mátészalka-Csenger line No 114 - separate level crossings will be created. A level crossing will be built on line 114 and an existing one will be rebuilt on line 115.

The utility replacements will include the rebuilding of communications, electricity, street lighting and other lines, as well as the rebuilding of railway safety and communications cables.

Works will start later this year

Péter Czeglédi, the chief architect of Duna Aszfalt Építő Zrt., informed us about the current status of the works.

The expert explained that the partial handover of the works took place in January 2023. Subsequently, the demilitarisation works and the construction of temporary transport roads, as well as the construction of temporary depot areas and the delivery of sandy gravel to depot areas, started.

The work continued with the removal of humus on several sections between the M3 motorway and the M49 motorway, kilometre sections 14+000. The trial mixing and trial construction of the earthworks materials to be used for the embankment construction is ongoing and the embankment foundation and construction will start.

"This year, we expect to continue the construction of the main line earthworks up to the 14+000 km section, the earthworks of the M3-M49 interchange and related structures, the construction of the Jarmi junction structure and embankment, and the construction of several structures up to the 14+000 km section.

We will also start preparatory works for the construction of the Kraszna bridge, and there will be some works between 14+000 and the final section, which will also start, but most of the earthworks after the Kraszna are expected to start next year", he said.

The work is expected to be completed in Q3 2026.
